Our Mission

The Great Rivers Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit seeks to partner with federal agencies in an effort to better understand and adaptively manage biophysical, cultural, economic and social resources and issues, especially those pertaining to large river ecosystems. Pursuit of this mission will entail development of research, educational and technical assistance programs based on interdisciplinary, multi-scale, systems-oriented approaches that engage affected communities and stakeholders.

Great Rivers CESU

The Great Rivers CESU is part of a national network of cooperative ecosystem studies units (see map below) focusing on providing partners in the network high-quality science, usable knowledge for resource managers, responsive technical assistance, continuing education, and cost-effective research programs. The Great Rivers CESU is a collaborative effort of twenty-one university/institutions and eight federal partners whose goal is to focus on the objectives listed above in the geographic area of the upper and middle Mississippi Valley.
